Fitchburg State Track and Field Names 15 Members To MASCAC All-Conference Teams
Men’s squad registers nine award winners; women earn six accolades
FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 7, 2010) – Fifteen members of the Fitchburg State men’s and women’s track teams were honored with All-Conference honors following the MASCAC/Alliance Championships a week ago. The Fitchburg State men’s squad registered nine award winners while the women earned six accolades.

On the men’s side, the Falcons dominated the track, placing seven members on the MASCAC Track All-Conference squad while two members earned MASCAC Field All-Conference honors. Senior Devon Jennings (Brockton, Mass./Brockton) was the men’s only three-time winner as the veteran took home top honors in the long-jump, the 4x100 relay and the 4x400 relay. Sophomore Mike Iasevoli (Ayer, Mass./Ayer) and junior Kyle Callahan (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) also took home a pair of All-Conference selections, capturing the league titles in the 100m dash and 400m hurdles respectively, while both ran a leg of the MASCAC Champion 4x100 relay team.
Sophomore Chris Kibler (Bath, Maine/Morse) also dominated the distance side of the track, earning pair of All-Conference honors with league crowns in the 1500m run and 5000m run. Junior Matt Spano (Gardner, Mass./Gardner) added to the Falcons All-Conference distance honorees, taking top honors in the 3000m steeple chase with a time of 9:51.57.
Junior Carlos De La Rosa (Holyoke, Mass./Holyoke) wrapped up the Falcons multiple All-Conference selections, earning a pair of post-season honors for his efforts in the 4x100 relay and 4x400 relay, while sophomore Jimmy DiNuccio (Wilmington, Mass./Wilmington) and sophomore Jimmy Petersen (Groton, Conn./Fitch) collected single honors for their parts on the Falcons first place, 4x400 relay squad.
Junior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) rounded the list of Fitchburg State men All-Conference members, capturing the league titles in both the shot-put and the discus. The veteran thrower recorded an Alliance record in the discus with a throw of 47.54m while posting a 14.73 shot-put.
On the women’s side, sophomore Madeline Merchant (Gardner, Mass./Monty Tech) earned an All-Conference selection after turning in three top performances. Merchant recorded a pair of first-place awards in the 100m (12.71) and 200m (26.20), before rounding out the day in the field with a league crown in the triple jump (11.15m).
Sophomore Kat Marrone (Springfield, Mass./Springfield Central) added to the mix of All-Conference honorees with the top MASCAC finish of the 800m (2:24.80), while senior Lindsay Suprenant (Feeding Hills, Mass./Agawam) and freshman Shanissa Sampson (Marlborough, Mass./Marlborough) recorded post-season nods in the discus and javelin respectively.
Rounding out the long list of Fitchburg State All-Conference winners were sophomore Erin Abbott (Warwick, Mass./Pioneer Valley) and freshman Emily Lane (Clinton, Conn./The Morgan School). The pair split the MASCAC league title in the high-jump, earning league honors with jumps of 1.54m.
Members of the Fitchburg State track and field team will be in action this weekend as they compete in the All-New England Championships starting on Friday afternoon.
