FITCHBURG, Mass. (May 11, 2010) – Junior Matt Muolo (Stoneham, Mass./Stoneham) was named the MASCAC’s Co-Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon.

Muolo collected his fourth Outdoor Field Athlete of the Week honor after leading the Fitchburg State track team at the All-New England Championships hosted by Northeastern University. Muolo captured All-New England honors with a fourth place performance in the discus, throwing 46.91m. He ranked first among all DIII competitors, trailing only URI, Boston University, and the University of Maine in the contest.

In addition to his discus achievement, Muolo also turned in a strong performance in the shot-put. He finished 19th overall, ranking second among all MASCAC competitors with a heave of 13.72m.

This season has been nothing short of spectacular for Muolo as the junior thrower provisionally qualified for the NCAA Nationals in the discus. He lifted the Fitchburg State men’s team to a 2010 MASCAC Outdoor Track and Field Championship, competing in four events, while earning the DIII New England discus title. Muolo captured two-league titles in both the discus (47.54m) and shot-put (14.73m), while breaking Fitchburg State’s all-time discus record with a throw of 47.90 meters.

Members of the Fitchburg State track and field team will be in action this weekend as they compete in the ECAC Championships starting on Friday afternoon.
